Micah

“Hear this, you rulers of the house of Jacob and chiefs of the house of Israel, who abhor justice and pervert all equity.

Therefore because of you Zion shall be ploughed as a field; Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the house a wooded height.”

Students in collaboration with ARTE, We Are All Immigrants, 2015, mural at Pan American International High School in Queens, New York City.

ARTE Mural - A prophetic call for justice

The core group of eight students who created this mural were in an art class working with Art and Resistance Through Education (ARTE), a non-profit organisation that teaches young people about human rights through art.

In a school whose population comes largely from Latin American immigrant families, the students chose to focus their final mural project on immigrants’ rights and racial discrimination. One student, Franklin, expressed that the idea behind the mural, which they wanted to convey to their community was “we are all immigrants, and we should have freedom and respect from everyone.”

The students identified Amnesty’s Stop Arbitrary Detention action and decided to use this opportunity to support their work.
